The Founding Father

Lotus Group was founded by the dynamic Tan Sri Datuk R. Doraisingam Pillai. Today, he continues to lead the charge of growing this business, guided by his belief in the power of hard work, the ability to always rise to the challenge and drive competitive advantage.

The First Restaurant

Upon the passing of his father in 1986, Tan Sri Datuk R. Doraisingam Pillai moved to Kuala Lumpur with his family. He started his first family restaurant business, the 'Lotus Family Restaurant' in Jalan Masjid India, which was moved to Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya.

The Diversification

To maintain the competitive advantage and continue to meet our customers’ evolving needs, Tan Sri Datuk R. Doraisingam Pillai continued to diversify his business empire, venturing into various sectors such as plantation, movies and cinemas, hotels and resorts, convenience stores, plantation and construction.

A strong believer in collective thinking and combined efforts, he is closely assisted by his three siblings, Dato’ R. Ramalingam, Dato’ R. Nagasundaram and Madam Indra Gandhi. As part of the Group’s succession plans, two of Tan Sri Datuk R. Doraisingam’s children, Miss Keerthana R. Doraisingam and Mr. Karthiik R. Doraisingam, have joined Lotus Group, starting as Management Trainees upon their graduation to their current positions as Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Financial Officer respectively.

Giving Back To The Community

Taking his cue from his philanthropist father, the late Mr N. Rengasamy Pillai, Tan Sri Datuk R. Doraisingam Pillai is actively involved in a wide range of philanthropic initiatives. During the 2006 Tsunami calamity, Lotus Group donated provisions, food and cash contributions to help victims not only in Malaysia but also in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India. As a family group, Lotus Group supports a home for about 250 special children.

Tan Sri Datuk R.Doraisingam Pillai remains committed to improving the socio-economic future of the communities around him, regardless of their race and religion. Lotus Group has donated lands to various races to build public amenities such as the places of worship, burial grounds and schools. One of the main recipients is SMJK San Min, a Chinese school in Teluk Intan, Perak. In addition to that, Lotus Group has given out 1,206 acres of land in Negeri Sembilan. Tan Sri Datuk R. Doraisingam Pillai committed to provide three (3) free meals a day for three(3) months to all frontliners combatting the wave of Covid-19 pandemic.

Recognition From The Nation

Tan Sri Datuk R. Doraisingam Pillai is currently the President for the Malaysian Medical Association Foundation, sits on the Board for the Malaysia Singapore Business Council, an advisor and corporate member for the Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, one of the trustees for the Malaysian Indian Restaurant Owners Association; and serves as a committee member on the Tourism Productivity Nexus. Previously, he was a member of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS).
