Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail and Raja Perempuan Perlis Tuanku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid were guests of honour at a Deepavali open house held by Lotus Restaurant chief executive officer Datuk R. Doraisingam in Petaling Jaya recently.

Other dignitaries and guests at the event were Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Mat Isa Sabu, Perlis state assembly Speaker Datuk Yazid Mat, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid and Kangar MP Datuk Seri Radzi Sheikh Ahmad and their wives.

Well-known film producer Datuk L. Krishnan and film director Datuk Yusof Haslam were also among the 1,500 guests that included foreign diplomats and MPs.

Guests were feted to a sumptuous lunch ranging from beriyani rice, grilled lamb to fried koay teow and desserts.

Doraisingam said his friendship with members of the Perlis royal family went back to 1962, since the time of his late father Rengasamy Pillai and the present Raja of Perlis’ father Tunku Syed Putra Jamalullail.

Doraisingam’s wife Datin Gomathy said: “It was an honour for us to have the royal couple as our guests. Their favourite dishes include fish head and mutton curry,” she said.

In the evening, Doraisingam’s brother Datuk R. Ramalingam, who is Lotus Restaurant managing director, held his Deepavali open house at his home which is opposite Doraisingam’s residence.
