Chic and intimate, the Lotus Sea View Beach Resort & Spa in Pengerang is also close to popular tourist attractions in Johor, writes

THE 184-room Lotus Sea View Beach Resort & Spa is one of the latest holiday destinations in Johor, located within Kota Tinggi’s coastal sub-district of Pengerang. Barely a month in operation, I am amongst the first to have the pleasure of visiting this new seaside resort, and I must say that it’s a beauty.

Nestled beside a secluded beach overlooking the South China Sea, the Lotus Sea View exudes an almost Mediterranean ambience with its creamy white buildings and verdant palm trees gently swaying in the wind.

Located at Tanjung Punggai, Pengerang (tanjung means cape), one of the defining features of the Lotus Sea View is its pristine beach next to a small rocky promontory; a perfect spot for a quiet morning walk on the beach while taking in the view of a majestic sunrise.

And due to its secluded location as well as the resort’s gated and guarded grounds, its beach also offers a far superior level of privacy than other publicly accessible beaches near Pengerang.

Laid out throughout the property are different categories of accommodations such as Sea View and Garden View; the two-bedroom suites consisting of four Sea View units next to the beach are perhaps the most luxurious options while staying at Lotus Sea View.

The units’ verandahs overlooking the beach are spacious and are the ideal place in which to sit down and enjoy a good book when the sun is too harsh for a dip in the sea.

One thing that strikes me as I walk around the Garden View units are the spaces between them, which are neither too close not too far but seem to be just about perfect as to not feel crowded.

Another striking feature is the swimming pool, which is a saltwater swimming pool instead of the usual chlorine treated water. And built nearby it is the resort’s gym where one can exercise while looking out at the tranquil pool.

TROPICAL DINING

Overlooking the beach is *****1818**** Seafood Restaurant, the resort’s main dining area. The restaurantcarries through the open and airy feel of Lotus Seaview’s architectural theme, with its high ceiling and exposed structural beams.

And although it is a seafood restaurant, which I assume will take advantage of the fresh seafood caught around the coastal area of Pengerang, its thick, sour and spicy Oxtail Asam Pedas stew as well as the uniquely presented plate of Barbequed Chicken are worth a taste.

The dining experience at 1881 Restaurant is best described as seaside casual, and one will not feel out of place dressed in beach attire and flip flops.

With a style that is sleek and contemporary, the Lotus Seaview offers a boutique resort experience. The ambience is chic and intimate, with an innate tranquility that is sure to sooth those looking to unwind.
